The community of Sioux City is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Cory Michael “Moose” Mozak, who passed away on May 23, 2026, at the age of 41. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, former teammates, and the entire Siouxland hockey community grieving the loss of a man remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and deep love for his family.
Born on September 28, 1984, in Sioux City, Iowa, Cory was the beloved son of Jeanne Hansen Mozak and Tim Mozak. From an early age, he developed a passion for hockey that became one of the defining parts of his life. After attending East High School, he continued pursuing the sport in Helena, Montana, where he played junior hockey before attending the University of Wisconsin–Stout. During those years, he formed lifelong friendships and built memories that remained important to him throughout his life.
Cory later returned to Sioux City, where he became deeply involved in the local hockey community. Through his work with Siouxland Youth Hockey and the Sioux City Metros, he dedicated countless hours to coaching and mentoring young athletes. Friends and fellow coaches admired his ability to inspire players not only to improve on the ice but also to grow in confidence, teamwork, and character.
Beyond hockey, Cory contributed to the family business, Mozak’s Furniture & Flooring, before later continuing his career with Shaw Industries. Though life eventually brought him and his family to St. Louis, Sioux City always remained close to his heart.
Above all else, Cory’s greatest joy was being a father to his children — Kennedey, Kerrigan, and Collin. Loved ones describe him as a devoted and loving father whose pride in his children could be seen in every part of his life. The love he shared with them remains one of the most meaningful and enduring parts of his legacy.
Those who knew Cory best remember him as charismatic, outgoing, and full of life. His infectious humor, unforgettable personality, and ability to make others feel welcome left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
As loved ones continue to mourn this tremendous loss, they are also celebrating a life rooted in love, friendship, mentorship, and community. The memories Cory created through hockey, family, and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
