The community of New Lowell and countless friends across the horse racing and healthcare communities continue to remember and honor the life of Kathleen Victoria Marshall (Hubbert), lovingly known as Katie, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating car accident on September 23, 2023. She was only 31 years old, yet her life was filled with extraordinary passion, kindness, dedication, and love for the people and animals closest to her heart.
Katie was a vibrant soul whose energy and positivity touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Whether with family, friends, coworkers, or fellow competitors, she brought warmth, encouragement, and unwavering support into every room she entered. Her passing left an unimaginable void in the hearts of loved ones, while her husband, Brody, continued his recovery from severe injuries sustained in the same tragic accident.
A proud resident of Stayner, Ontario, Katie remained deeply connected to her roots in New Lowell and proudly represented her community throughout her years competing in barrel racing events across Ontario and the United States. Horses were not simply a hobby to Katie — they were a lifelong passion. Alongside Brody, whom she met at just 16 years old during a horse show, she built a life centered around dedication to the sport they both loved so deeply.
Katie was admired as an exceptional athlete and horsewoman, known not only for her competitive talent but also for her patience, gentleness, and mentorship of young riders. She celebrated the success of others as enthusiastically as her own and became known as one of the sport’s biggest cheerleaders and supporters.
Outside the arena, Katie was deeply respected in her career as a Security Officer at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Coworkers and hospital staff remember her as compassionate, intelligent, courageous, and incredibly skilled at helping people through difficult moments. She possessed a rare ability to de-escalate situations with empathy and understanding, making her an invaluable member of the hospital’s security team.
Above all else, Katie loved her family fiercely. She cherished being a daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Her nephew Clyde Jesse Hubbert brought her endless joy, and the bond she shared with her loved ones defined so much of who she was.
Though her life ended far too soon, Katie’s spirit lives on through the countless lives she touched with her compassion, strength, generosity, and love.
May Kathleen Victoria Marshall (Hubbert) rest in peace.
